Description

Experience the soaring cliffs and misty moods of Bluff Knoll, the highest peak in the Stirling Range. Bluff Knoll is the most popular trail in the Stirling Range with outstanding 360-degree views from the summit. The walk starts at the southern end of the Bluff Knoll car park and picnic area. The trail first drops down to a creek and then goes across a mountainside to a saddle. Here you can look over the ridge to the south coast. The trail then turns left and follows the ridge to the summit. Eucalypt woodland, banksia and grass trees blanket the lower slopes while exposed outcrops reveal layers in the rock evidence of fine sediments that settled on the bottom of an ancient shallow sea long ago and then slowly became compressed into layers of rock. Height: 1095m Distance: 3.1km to summit (allow 3 to 4 hours return) Trail Classification: Class 4 Moderately difficult. Pets are not permitted. No camping or overnight parking.

We tried this walk yesterday and got to within 900m of the top. It got very windy and cloudy. A tough walk but glad we tried it.

We 4 over 60s started the hike at 8am, taking our time with the climb. Couldn't believe the number coming down who walked up in darkness to see the sunrise. Quite a tough walk for anyone who is unfit, and clouded over at the top, so sadly we had no view. Agree with a previous post- take heed of signage and take warm clothes as quite cool ( and drizzly in our case) up the top. It's not easy, but worth it. It took us 3 and a half hours all up.

Started hike at 12.30 on Sunday, got to the top and clouds just cleared, well worth the effort, it was a farther and son trip definitely worked out the body but just take your time and have breaks regularly, I left my sunglasses at half way point on the way up sitting on the rock but I think someone like them and didn't leave for me on the way back
