Description

Bush camping area located along the Ashburton River. Access is via unsealed road suitable for 2WD. Max stay of 28 days per annum. It is dog friendly. There are no facilities. Campers must be self-sufficient. Take all rubbish with you and leave no trace. There are no toilet facilities at this site. If you do not have your own toilet, bury human waste at least 100m from tracks and water bodies. Bury toilet paper or bag and dispose of in a bin once you leave the site. It is accessible to camper trailers and caravans. Camping in tents is allowed. The Three Mile, Five Mile and Ten Mile are permanent pools along the Ashburton River and play an important part in the history of an area known for its lack of water in the dry season. The names of pools indicate the distance from the Old Onslow townsite. The water remains fresh and untainted by salt water owing to the levy built near the Three Mile Pool, which prevents salt water encroaching up the river. There is a Waste Transfer Facility on the left just before Onslow, 500m off the road. Open 8am to 3pm Mon to Sat. Hi, Of the 3 camping spots in this area, 2 are shown as having fees and the other has none. In fact, none of these sites require payments. The local council would like campers who are staying more than 3 days to register with them for safety reasons, eg, some weather event keeping people stuck in the camping area.
