Description

Running Creek Camping Reserve is situated in the north-east region of Victoria, in State Forest on the Howqua River. It is only 40km or a 40 minute drive from Mansfield, (23.5km from Jamieson), to the camping site. The campsite is on the bank of the Howqua River which, makes it great for activities such as bushwalking, fishing, riding and touring. When camping across the river beware of rapid river level rises after thunderstorms in the Upper Howqua Catchment. Swimmers must be careful of strong currents, rocks and submerged objects in the Howqua River. The track to the Reserve is a moderate slope, quite windy, a good gravel road that is quite narrow in parts and is accessible to all vehicles. It is very narrow and hairy for full size caravans, but pop-tops and camper trailers should be OK. However, following heavy rains this road becomes slippery and may be temporarily inaccessible to 2WDs. There are two toilet blocks at the site. Fresh water can be obtained from the river nearby and we suggest you boil any water for drinking. There are no facilities for rubbish collection here so you must take it home when you leave and ensure the area is clean for future campers. No firewood is supplied at this site. Use fallen dead wood but do not remove any from standing trees or damage other vegetation. There are no built fireplaces at this site so please use a previous campfire site where possible and clean up afterwards please. Make sure you clear the ground at least 3 metres around your campfire and 1.5 metres around portable gas appliances. Do not light fires on a Total Fire Ban Day. Dont camp directly under trees as branches can fall unexpectedly. Dogs are allowed in this area but they must be kept under control.
