Description

The campground has no designated camping spots and no powered sites, camp where you like in the camping area, so no need to book, there are suggestion and donation boxes* on each amenities block. Most campers donate $5 per camp site per night to help our volunteers with upgrades and maintenance costs. There is drinking water available, fire pits, picnic tables, chairs, playground an exercise machine, pontoon, boat ramps, RV dump point, hot water wash up sink and hot water showers in the first toilet block. Camp firewood in approx. 20 kg bags is usually available to be purchased from the rangers or phone 0408 501 016. Please do not cut or collect either dead or green trees. The lake is well-stocked with trout and redfin for those looking to catch a feed of fish for dinner, be it from the jetty, a boat or the shoreline. There are walking tracks, photography, bird watching, water sports, bush walking, and a concrete walking or cycling path runs all the way to Ararat. The lake has two green lawn picnic area with table and chair sets and free gas BBQs. These areas features covered Picnic Pavilions which prove ideal in inclement weather, although please note camping and vehicles are not permitted inside the lawn area. Our friendly rangers visit the lake most days and are a great source of information or check out our notice board regarding local events, restaurants tourist attractions etc. As the rangers will tell you there are plenty of great things to see and do in the area including many wineries, museums and heritage centers along with well maintained national parks and gardens. Ararat has everything travellers could want and a vibrant shopping centre with many restaurants, health facilities, sporting and leisure facilities including heated and outdoor swimming pools.
