Description

Freycinet National Parks campground is a small coastal strip along the dunes of Richardsons Beach and the granite knoll of Honeymoon Bay. All campsites are only metres from the waters edge. The Richardsons Beach Campground (adjacent to the visitor centre) has accessible toilets, and accessible powered and unpowered sites. Camping in Freycinet is extremely popular, particularly over the summer months and at Easter. Due to the high demand for these campsites, a ballot system operates for camping between 18 December 10 February and at Easter. See booking information for details. During this period a maximum of 10 nights can be booked. Outside of this period there is a maximum 14 night stay. Powered sites (campsites 1-18) These are hardened camping sites that protect the fragile coast. These provide small (maximum 18ft) caravans and campervans a space with power, potable water, grey water disposal and an amenities block with coin-operated hot water showers. Sand dune sites (campsites 19-45) These are individual, tent-only camping nodes clearly delineated in the fore-dune vegetation. Each site has parking for one vehicle, shares a track to the beach and is within easy reach of potable water, flushing toilets and cold water showers. Limited sites are available at the sand dune area over winter. Honeymoon Bay sites (campsites 46-52) These sites are perched upon a granite knoll overlooking Honeymoon Bay. The sites are only open over summer holidays and at Easter and require a bit of a walk to the amenities. Electric barbecues, picnic tables, non-treated water and toilets are available in this area. Freycinet is a Fuel Stove Only Area as it is very dry and vulnerable to fire. No fires are allowed in the national park. Gas and fuel stoves may be used except on days of Total Fire Ban, when no naked flames of any sort, including gas and fuel stoves, are allowed in the open. The electric barbecues provided at Ranger Creek and Honeymoon Bay picnic areas can be used.
