Description

Cockle Creek is a very popular destination for families, offering a variety of recreational activities such as bushwalking, swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and bird-watching. The Cockle Creek campground has availability for 20 sites between the Cemetery and the bridge. Camping is free. Basic facilities are limited to cleared campsites and pit toilets. No campsite bookings are taken. Campgrounds are allocated on a first come, first served basis. A four week maximum stay applies. Sites are not numbered so please try not to spread out too much and allow for others to utilise the campground as well. There is no rubbish collection, so please take all your rubbish with you when you leave. Waste Transfer stations are located in Dover, Geeveston and Huonville. Campfires are permitted within Recherche Bay Nature Recreation Area - except when there are seasonal fire restrictions. For this reason bring a fuel stove for cooking. The use of fire pots is encouraged to prevent damage to the surroundings. You will need to supply your own pre-cut firewood and chainsaws are not permitted in the Nature Recreation Area. Dogs are welcome in the reserve. Please keep your dog under control at all times to prevent it from wandering outside of camp zones, through vegetation and disturbing native wildlife and other camp users. Dogs, fires, chainsaws and generators are not permitted over the bridge at Cockle Creek in the Southwest National Park, breaches may incur heavy fines. Generators may be used in campgrounds, please use conservatively and with consideration for nearby campers and switch off by 10pm. All other noise, including music must also stop by 10pm. The road beyond the Ida Bay township is gravel but can be negotiated by two-wheel drive vehicles. Campervans and caravans can access with care. Visitors to the Southwest National Park, across the bridge at Cockle Creek, require a valid parks pass.
