Description
Located in the Diamantina National Park, 4km from the turn-off to Hunters Gorge signed on Springvale Road, Hunters Gorge camping area features open bush camping sites by Mundawerra Waterhole on the Diamantina River. This area is well suited to camper trailers but has few shade trees and is exposed to frequent high winds.
Camping permits are required and fees apply. Book prior to arrival. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.
The camping area can only be reached by 4WD and camper trailers and caravans with high clearance.
Camping is unpowered and in an open area without defined sites. Camp sites are suitable for tent camping beside your vehicle and camper trailers. Not suitable for large caravans. A pit toilet is available.
Open fires: permitted, except when fire prohibitions or fire bans are in place. Fuel stoves are recommended.
Generators: not allowed, except for medical reasons (with the department's permission).
Mobile phone coverage is unavailable; satellite phones and UHF radios recommended.
Pets are not permitted.
Be alert and prepared for changes in weather. Even small amounts of rain on the park or in surrounding areas can cause floods at any time of year. If heavy rain or minor flooding occurs, move to higher ground.
