Carappee Huts

Darke Peak, South Australia

This is a private set of huts and camp area, the camp area is open to the general public as long as the location is respected otherwise gates will be put up and locked. It's a nice place to sit back and listen to the birds and enjoy the scenery.

Access to this campground is blocked due to creek wash out on the carapee hill road. On maps looks like a road on the other side of the hill. But no access to the camp. Unless 4wd and small trailer.

Stayed the night and loved it, met the owner the day after at the Darke Peak Hotel and he said he wasnt in control of the road leading to the site and hadnt had time after the floods to fix the crossing into the huts.

Lovely spot indeed - toilet in good nick with toilet paper provided! Road in has been washed out, minimum high wheel base/AWD needed. We got in with 4wd & camper trailer but didn't go over last hump to be close to toilet, staying near side of stream bed. Not too windy, March flies annoying. Had the place to ourselves :+)
