Description

The John Pirie Bridge is better known as the bridge to nowhere. The Bridge is located in Port Pirie just off the Main Road and leads to a piece of land with no infrastructure or development. It cost $410,000 and it was built by 33 previously unemployed people for 26 weeks. The council in those days we desirous of building that up as an industrial area- because prior to that bridge there had been dredging in the Port Pirie creek and all of the mud was discharged on the opposite bank- opposite the wharf and that had built it up quite a bit. After awhile when no industry appeared over there it became known as the bridge to nowhere.
