Bridge to Nowhere
Point of InterestDescription
The John Pirie Bridge is better known as the bridge to nowhere.
The Bridge is located in Port Pirie just off the Main Road and leads to a piece of land with no infrastructure or development.
It cost $410,000 and it was built by 33 previously unemployed people for 26 weeks.
The council in those days were desirous of building that up as an industrial area- because prior to that bridge there had been dredging in the Port Pirie creek and all of the mud was discharged on the opposite bank- opposite the wharf and that had built it up quite a bit.
After awhile when no industry appeared over there it became known as the bridge to nowhere.
