Description

The Wallaman Falls section of Girringun National Park forms part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The main lookout at Wallaman Falls provides a view of Stony Creek as it plunges 268 m in a clear single-drop, often through a rainbow-fringed cloud of mist. Wallaman Falls is the highest, permanent, single-drop waterfall in Australia. A second lookout provides stunning views of the gorge and the Herbert River Valley. Two short walks are available from Wallaman Falls. Banggurru walk 800m return (allow 45 mins) Grade: easy. Djyinda walk 3.2km return (allow 2 hrs) Grade: moderate. Wallaman Falls is located 51 km south-west of Ingham, about 1 hr drive through rural properties. Travel west from Ingham along Abergowrie Road to Trebonne. From here, the route is well signposted. While part of the road is unsealed, it can still be accessed using a conventional vehicle. Care is required on the range, which is slippery when wet. Towing caravans is not recommended. Leave your pets at home. Domestic animals are not permitted in national parks.

A must do. But leave the caravan at Ingham. Too windy and steep , not great passing if someone coming the other way. We walked down in 40 minutes and back in 42 minutes. But if a hard slog. But we're both over 60 so can be done.

Beautiful walk 4km through the rainforest. Steep down and back up with lots of steps. Take you time and enjoy! Road not suitable for caravans.

Left the jayco swan at Hinchinbrook info centre. You could tow van that size in but not worth it if your not camping pretty twisty tight uphill climb. Waterfall is awesome and the walk down took us about 45 minutes each way with 2 kids 9 and 7. Well worth the extra steps. Take bug spray. March flies were not bad our time of year but mozzies friendly.
