Description

The practice of boiling up the billy and cooking camp oven damper in the coals of fire, started on this exact same spot over 30 years ago, is ever popular with visitors to the Barcaldine Homestead Caravan and Tourist Park. The great Aussie tradition has always been a hit with guests, who reckon this park has the best damper in the west. Every day during the season, guests are treated to this famous bush smoko, and most nights a country singer (see below) or entertainer as well. Well, if the rest of the week has an Aussie flavour during the season, Friday and Saturday nights have been getting rave reviews for a number of years over the cuisine of a different nationality. You can get Chinese takeaway on those nights. And any morning is the perfect time for a brekky wrap. The extended shop (the complex has a Caltex service station as well) is popular with park guests and townsfolk alike, the store has a whole wall of cold drinks. Slushies come in several flavours, cappuccinos are popular and you'll find a range of other products from phone recharges to dog food. The Park itself is beautifully green with lovely mature plantings, there's plenty of space on the sites and you can see hundreds of birds and other wildlife out the back. If you're not towing your own caravan, you can book one of the budget cabins. A camp kitchen with TV and free barbecue is available. Keep in touch with friends and family with free wireless.

Staying here ATM. Caretaker is back from holidays and the place is beginning to look tidy. Toilets are old but clean as is laundry. Camp kitchen could do with a sweep but bbq is cleaned daily. Only CP open in town apart from showground.

One night stay. Half the park and facilities were closed. The facilities that were open were very old and run down. Not the best place to stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights. The amenities need cleaning. The grounds need attention. There were only a couple of other caravans on sites. There is no damper or entertainment any more. The price at $26 per night the high light of this park. You also get 2 cents a litre off your fuel. 2 stars.
