Camping permits for Inskip Peninsula camping areas are required and must be purchased before setting up campfees apply. Small camping structures are recommended here. Set up camp with ocean views of Double Island Point, or seek out a more sheltered patch among the red ash and sheoaks. From here you can fish, walk and drive in the surrounding recreation area and marine park. Open camping area behind the foredunes and close to the bitumen road. No formally defined sites. Coastal trees and shrubs provide dappled shade in some areas. It is only a short walk to the surf beach or to the more sheltered Pelican Bay. Some camp sites provide views across the ocean towards Double Island Point. Other camp sites, located closer to the bitumen road, are more sheltered from prevailing ocean winds. 4WD recommended, access only off Inskip Point Road, no vehicle access permits needed. This is the first camping area from the entrance of the recreation area. Some camp sites, located closer to the entrance and parallel to the bitumen road, may be accessible to 2WD vehicles under normal conditions, but 4WD is recommended. Camping buses and vehicles with camper trailers and caravans have very restricted access. Choose another camping area with better access for these vehicles. No vehicle access to or from the beach from within this camping area. Open fires: Permitted in pre-existing fire sites, except when QPWS-imposed fire prohibitions or QFES fire bans are in place. Fuel stoves are recommended. Generators: Only low decibel generators up to 2.0Kva are permitted. Turn generators off after 9pm. Dogs on leash permitted. Mobile phone coverage is Intermittent.

Great place to camp just outside of Rainbow Beach. Was very quiet when we visited. We could only access the first couple of sites (3-4 of them) as after that the road was too sandy for our Kia Rio, had plenty of 4WDs come through though and get deeper into the campsite. It is supposed to be a one way drive but we could only use the entry so it also became our exit. You are close to the beach so we got some lovely sea breeze but that wasnt enough to keep away the Marchflies though, definitely bring bug spray.
