Geckos Backpackers Cairns is a Magnificent Historical Heritage Place, built many, many years ago as a Guest House, now nearly 3 decades as Geckos Backpackers. After renovations in the past recent years, we are now going through the rooms with a fresh coat of paint again. Rooms are a good size with NO bunk beds. Beautiful, well layed out property only 600 meters walk to the City centre and Cole's Supermarket directly across the road open from 6am to 10pm. Lush Tropical gardens with cool swimming pool. All city facilities and attractions only minutes away. Cairns the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Rainforest's. We have a tour desk for all your activity requirements. Here at Geckos Backpackers we strive to keep the place clean and tidy all the time and have a no alcohol policy which really keeps the place very quiet and safe for a good night sleep, perfect for travellers going on tours each day. Unlimited wifi with tea and coffee 24/7. Budget accommodation in Cairns with great value for money.

Don't go to this hostel. The manager was very unfriendly, cockroaches in the bathroom, no alcohol policy but everyone is stoned all day long. A stoned guy entered our campervan at 4 am and tried to touch me and my friend.
Box On Wheels
Its a hostel so dont get your hopes up. If you want a camp ground go to an actual camp ground - its just a token pitch in the back garden. Reception is friendly and did us a good deal on a private room. Facilities are adequate, but there are some interesting characters staying here who love domestic disputes at 4am after a night out.
