Lovely cruise out n back. The township other than Tiwi art and the museum leaves a lot to be desired.. rubbish strewn everywhere. Other than the ammenites at Tiwi art n museum give the rest a wide berth .. disgusting. Didn't get to the Keeping place as I'd had enough. Very much a culture shock and nothing like it's advertised.. Maybe a guided tour would be better. Bring your own lunch as only junk food on offer. For somewhere advertised for tourist the township needs to do some serious work. Glad we did it .. Yes.. would we go again .. no . would I recommend it .. with reservations.. and consider a tour.

In 2010 Nguiu was renamed Wurrumiyanga, meaning the place where the cycads grow, by the Tiwi Land Council. The Sealink Ferry from Darwin barge lands a bit further down the beach. Most of the locals are friendly. 2 Takeway shops and a well stocked supermarket.
