We drove down to Kalkarinji for a look around and to see what we could find in relation to the Wave Hill WalkOff and the birth of Indigenous Land Rights in Australia in 1966.
We visited this art centre and one lady, Pamela was painting a very beautiful artwork with caterpillars.
They have some info about the land rights stuff but not a great deal. They said that they don't get many visitors, only when they have the Freedom Festival in Aug each year.
There was a small display of books for sale. We bought 3 kids books and she kindly gave us the clean stock from out the back.
Some fascinating books on the Gurindji language (dictionaries, grammatical dictionary).
The road in is bitumen however there are roadworks to remove the rutting and turn single lane into 2 lanes.
