A mission that operated for 150 years, a people that owned this country for millennia, foreign colonists under resourced and struggling in the harsh Australian outback, a history of frontier violence and sanctuary, years of drought and illness and heartbreak, enduring friendships and a community that continues to grow and evolve in response to the changes in the world around them; there are many stories to be told about Hermannsburg and some of them are recounted here from a mixture of written sources and oral histories.

Enjoyed the historic old mission very informative of the challenges faced and history of the area Cafe also worth a visit as is the artwork worth 1-2 hours

Visited the Historic Precinct. Well worth the visit, lots of history here. Art work is great. Great cafe. Fresh pies, pasties etc.

It's a shame to see this run by white people, while the town is full of Indigenous who probably have some connection to the old mission. The Hermansburg pottery studio - external to the mission precinct - was not open. I left a ph message and emailed the studio about opening and got no response. All round a disappointing experience for a 250km round trip
