Description

Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge is located in the heart of the beautiful Mary River Wetlands 2 hours drive east of Darwin via the Arnhem Hwy. The lodge is named after the explorer John McDouall Stuart who trekked through this area on his epic journey to become the first person to successfully cross the Australian continent (from southern Australia to the northern coast in 1862). The property was once known as Jimmy Creek Abattoir which processed the large numbers of water buffalo that inhabited the wetlands during the 1960's to the early 1980's, & was part of the original Point Stuart Station. Perfectly situated, it is the ideal base to explore the wilderness of Australia's Top End - Mary River National Park, Shady Camp Reserve & Kakadu National Park. The lodge offers a variety of accommodation with comfortable facilities including a licensed Saloon bar & bistro. Tours & safaris are available to ensure guests from around the world experience one of the most diverse ecosystems in Australia. The Mary River Region, ranging from it's magical monsoon forests, to dense mangrove habitats, lush floodplains, tidal rivers & billabongs, makes this area a wildlife observers & fishers paradise.

Stayed for 3 nights. Facilities were good but place could use a good clean especially the camp kitchen. Mozzies were dreadful and although the Saloon advertised 10pm close last drinks called at 8.30pm and closed at 9pm leaving nowhere to sit and socialize. This was every night. Owners could smile a bit more.
