Palm Valley Campground

Campground

Description

Spectacular Finke Gorge National Park covers an area of 46,000 hectares and includes the impressive Palm Valley. Palm Valley is home to a diverse range of plant species, many that are rare and unique to the area, including the red cabbage palm (Livistona mariae), which gives the area its name. The park is open all year round, but the roads may be closed after heavy rain. The park is 138km west of Alice Springs. Turn south off Larapinta Drive just west of Hermannsburg. Access along the last 16km of track follows the sandy bed of the Finke River and is limited to high clearance 4WD vehicles only. Heavy rains may cause this section of the road to be impassable. The track from the picnic area to Palm Valley is not suitable for trailers or caravans. Check current road conditions on 1800 246 199 or contact the Parks and Wildlife Regional Office. As of 1st March 2022 all camp sites must be booked online. Telstra phone reception is available in Hermannsburg & 3G at the mobile 'hotspot' in the park. Ensure bookings prior to arrival to avoid disappointment. The online booking system is running. www.parkbookings.nt.gov.au Sites are unpowered and facilities include toilets, hot showers, water, fire pits and bbq. Rubbish bins are not provided, so take your rubbish with you. At Palm Valley, fires are only permitted in designated fire pits. Collect firewood before entering the park. Pets are not permitted in the National Park. You can be a campground host here during peak season (May-September). Contact volunteer.parks@nt.gov.au for more info and applications.
