Description

You are now required to make a booking for all campgrounds and campsites in NSW national parks. This includes locations that were previously available for use without a booking. This is necessary to protect our visitors and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Book online or contact the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757. This location is a free campground, however a booking fee of $6 per site applies. Money collected will be used to manage campground numbers and improve your safety. Tom Groggin campground is set on the banks of the upper Murray River, just off Alpine Way. There's plenty of room for relaxed camping in open areas, in a lovely valley setting with stunning mountain and riverside backdrops. It is an ideal base to enjoy fishing, bushwaking, mountain biking, and 4WDing in southern Kosciuszko National Park. The weather conditions are also generally milder here in the valley than higher areas of Kosciuszko National Park. Camping is free, however National Park entry fees apply. Bookings are not required at this campground. Campsites are available on a first-in first-served basis. Sites are unpowered and unmarked and are suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravan and camping beside your vehicle. Facilities include picnic tables, barbecue facilities and toilets. Bring your own drinking water, cooking water and firewood. The open grasslands in the valley are home to a large population of resident eastern grey kangaroos. Emus, echidnas, brush-tailed possums, lyrebirds, flame robins and crimson rosellas can also be spotted. The road between Thredbo and Khancoban is not recommended for vehicles towing large caravans. All 2WD vehicles need to carry snow chains in winter, between June and October long weekends, on: Kosciuszko Road (to Perisher) Guthega Road Alpine Way between Thredbo and Tom Groggin Snow chains are recommended for all vehicles driving in the park, including 4WD and AWD, in the event of extreme weather.
