Description

Company Dam, located just over 2km northwest of Grenfell via Bradley St and Newtown Rd, offers a serene retreat amidst Tumbledown Red Gum and Cypress Pine woodlands. Originally constructed in June 1867 by the Grenfell Water Company to supply water to gold claims and crushers, the dam now serves as a recreational haven for outdoor enthusiasts. This historical site, now Crown Land, boasts a rich avian diversity, making it a prime spot for birdwatching. Over 50 bird species have been recorded here, including the Peaceful Dove, Rainbow Bee-eater, and Red-browed Finch. The area is also recognized as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area, attracting enthusiasts for surveys and exploration. With signposted walking and cycling trails, Company Dam invites visitors to explore its natural wonders responsibly. Safety is paramount, so be sure to wear appropriate clothing, carry drinking water, and heed trail etiquette. Dogs must be leashed, and disturbances to flora and fauna should be avoided.
