Redland Aviation Heritage Seaplane Ramp
Description
Redlands Aviation Thompsons Beach Ramp
A flying boat ramp built at Thompsons Beach was to be for the new international flying boat base.
However, due to a number of factors, including finance and the demise of international flying boat services, the base was never exstablished, and the ramp was never actually used by QANTAS or Ansett aircraft. It was used only once on 16 July 1962 when an East Coast Airways Grumman G-73 Malland amphibian aircraft made an emergency landing at Redland Bay.
The Malard was repaired at the ramp and took off a few days later.
This aircraft is the only known user of the ramp.
