Hell's Gate - Ask For History At Roadhouse

Description
The name, 'Hell's Gate' originated in the early days of Gulf settlement when settlers and travellers moved west through the only gap in the escarpment, one kilometre south of the present day roadhouse. Police escorted travellers to the portals of Hell's Gate. From then, they were on their own' until they reached police protection at Katherine, in the Northern Territory.
It is the same track that the legendary explorer,
overlander and bushman, Nat Buchanan, travelled in
1881 as he guided the first settlers to 'take up' and settle the first two 'cattle runs' in the Northern Territory.
