More and more tourists are flocking to the new tourist attraction in Lightning Ridge where you can go 11.2 metres underground to explore hand carved images sculptured out of the sandstone walls and pillars of an old opal mine, then tour an old opal mine that was started over 100 years ago. The carving level is 11.2 metres underground, the 100 year old mine is 19.6 metres underground, subterranean tunnels open into vast chambers. The walls have over 700 eclectic carvings and paintings created by our artist Ron Canlin, the owner of this uniquely Australian attraction his talent is never ending. Chambers of the Black Hand is both a collection of sculptures, hand carvings, paintings and an informative and entertaining tour of an opal mine that has been worked for over100 years, learn how hard it was for the old timers that dug by hand. Here you will get to see tunnels and shaft hand dug it is a very informative part of the tour. No camping or overnight parking allowed. Closed from 12pm-3pm every day for lunch. Tour Times: WINTER TOUR TIMES Easter Friday or the 1st of April to the 1st of Nov. 9.30 am rolling tours until12.00 pm and 3 pm-close 5.00 pm SUMMER TOUR TIMES 1ST NOV till Easter Friday or 1st of April. 10 am till 12 pm-close, [one tour only] CLOSED 24, 25, AND 26TH OF JAN, AND ANZAC DAY. CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE 20TH JAN TILL 1ST OF MARCH

A must do when at Lightning Ridge..amazing sculptures..well presented..did both tours and highly recommend..very informative as to the mining off the opals..guide was great ..thank you

A must visit location at least for the carving level. We also did the mine tour which was very informative. Well worth the cost
